Belagavi which is accorded as second capital of Karnataka and is important power centre of North Karnataka. Also Gateway to North Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa and Is connected to various cities and also comprised of well established airport with ample load and is leading airport in North Karnataka.
The ‘Professional Forum, Belagavi’ led by Dr. H B Rajshekhar has put request to Honourable CM Of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai for Four-laning of airport road of Belagavi City. Since every year, There will be not only legislative Session will be held in Belagavi but also this road serves connectivity between Hyderabad-Raichur-Bagalkot-Belagavi-Goa. It also have an establishment of Indian Airforce Training base which has got ample traffic movement so considering this the Professional Forum forwarded the below letter to the CM of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai to immediately take an action to implement this road project.
Below are the points mentioned in the letter (translated from Kannada to English) :
The city of Belagavi has already been accorded as the second capital of Karnataka. Every year, the Winter Legislative Session will be held in Belagavi. Many dignitaries and celebrities attending the session, had to travel about 10 km from the Airport at Sambra through Raichur – Bachi state highway (SH-20) and reach the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha through National Highway-4. Dignitaries coming from other parts of the country to Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot and Kolhapur (Maharashtra) too use Belagavi Airport.

Belagavi Airport is the largest airport in North Karnataka with a daily arrival and departure of 18 aircrafts. This has resulted in heavy traffic flow on the SH-20 (Raichur-Bachi State Highway 20). In addition to the traffic congestion caused by the above reason, vehicles coming from Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka towards Bagalkot Vijayapur too move on the same road. Which is causing traffic congestion and slow traffic movement. According to the vehicle census 2020, road witnesses 28,104 PCU (Passenger car units) per day. As per the norms, the road need to be widened they carry more than 20,000 passenger car units (PCU) per day. It is therefore imperative to develop this 10km stretch into a four lanes highway.

The land required to carry out this widening work is already under the control of the Department of Public Works. If the grant for the construction of the road is provided, The Department of Public Works can carry out the said development work.
The widening of the road will ease the traffic and facilitate movement of Dignitaries during the session. Moreover, Belagavi is a major city in the northwestern parts of Karnataka and lies at the border of two states, Maharashtra and Goa on the western ghats in terms of agriculture, industrial, educational, cultural and defense and medical and social aspects, and we want to make it known that the construction of this road will facilitate the development of the city and surrounding land.
Many accidents occur due to the current high density traffic flow in this 10 km stretch. It takes about half an hour to cross the road. Therefore, the development of agriculture, occupational and educational sectors has been hampered in this area, So the road must be widened to a Four-lane road for the rapid development of all these sectors and for smooth traffic flow. It is request from the citizens of Belagavi, Organizations, Institute of Engineers and Professional Forum Belagavi to sanction 100 crores in the current year Budget and Allocate 50 crores for the implementation in the current year.
