Why often in December when suddenly the city corporation of Belagavi wakes up its soul from its deaf years for citizen civic requests, road carpeting, cleaning dividers, fixing median lights, all these activities get a boost, and although we shouldn’t miss out so far on what has taken shape and what is dragging on, the Belagavi people are smart to judge, Ohhhh the winter session time that didn’t happen for last two years, Thank-God Welcome VIP’s what a relief that Your arrival makes My city clean neat and tidy, feel singing like “Kesariya Padharo Mharo Des”
So first we must thank our Hon CM Shri Basavaraj Bommai Sir, that he made this winter session happen, despite of post COVID speculation.
This article is an attempt to address our Hon CM Sir, few requests that we the people Belagavi want Him to assess and fulfil the completion of projects running at snail place, and I call them dragging feet issues. so let me classify the whole of the civic and other issues one by one, and You all will be interested to know, where is our beloved city of Belagavi is heading. Or was it not supposed to be called and developed as Second capital.
Firstly I must start with CM’s Sir Arrival at Belagavi Airport located in Sambra, Hon. CM Sir may I please bring in your kind attention about this road which is pending to be quadrupled (four laned) from Airport to City limits, and so far as such sanctions and headlines are already making news, including that of Hon Transport cabinet Minister Nitin Gadkariji on making of Hyderabad-Hangund-Raichur-Belgaum Goa express way or under Bharatmala project, but it shows status as to be declared in NHAI website, yet to materialise even, Sir, do we not deserve to expect this road widened to four lanes than waiting for NHAI, Please these announcements we people have been hearing so loud but since long but never happened, wish this gets sanctioned and by next year 2023 session when You travel on same road Sir, You will have a smoother drive to City on a swanky four laned track, wouldn’t You please initiate to get this done Sir.

Second Issue, that voice of Belgaonkars want to make you hear is Hon CM Sir, after Airport You head to circuit House (Govt Guest House) Isn’t it, I mean after landing at Belagavi.

Sir you need to see our under-construction Bus Sand, it’s the most welcoming one, dusty in dry weather, full of slush in rains, no platforms in place expect the makeshift ones and some old used buses sent after decades of use from NWKRTC HQ Hubli, and then you will wonder, why was both city and interstate or Central Bus Stand were taken for reconstruction at one go ? Thanks to previous state government as you know the Congress legacy, which is known so much for laying foundation stones only and forget further (Those Marble Plaques). And the suffering of people here goes on.
Hon CM Sir will you please ensure this five-year-old snail pace project (as introduced as key dragging feet issues) must be completed soon inaugurated by You, the poor public will bless You Sir. And not to miss the smart city bus stand project, not sure why is dragging its feet too or complete as well, as we know it’s a usual City bus terminal smart city project conflict with NWKRTC, simple inter government feud out of commercial interest. Hon CM Sir this needs you strong and strict intervention.
Now let me bring you the third most important issue, the road to Suvarna Vikas Saudha, you will sure notice a bypass road to Machhe on right side towards Goa, which is heading to nowhere half done half underway and some parts further missing. So, please hear the dragging feet story.
Government got the land farmers were paid, government started road, farmers wanted more money, so they protested and started farming again, destroying the under construction bypass road, Government woke up said compensation is paid and started the road again, some vested interested politician brought stay on bypass road some agents made hefty commissions, and again farmers started tilling on under construction road.
As farmers’ want the status quo from court order to be maintained so as per the same rule even farmers shouldn’t do the tilling on land, which was mud filled and elevated for road, the same status quo (so called under litigation and matter is sub-judice) must apply for them too isn’t it. Will you please end this feud Sir? And let the road happen to ease the east coming traffic exit without congesting the city.

The next dragging feet in the list now, is something which is in Your hands Hon CM Sir, the suffering industries of Belagavi, we have never got sanctioned any big industries though we contribute Rs. 159/- billion to sate exchequer, largest home to small scale industrial base, mainly hydraulic, mechanised engineering, auto-component accessories, majority of them exports with ISO certification and OEM suppliers.
Do we not deserve some better employment opportunities with some big industries coming up here, by the way this reminds me of Aeuqs the first aerospace SEZ of the country, but the state Government with banner of slogan, Decongest Bangalore, create competition with making a new SEZ at BIAL in Bangalore, how far is this justified Sir, and I absolutely agree not Your decision, lets blame it on previous governments, but can Your government amend this and give a chance for expansion and growth here in Belagavi too in the field of thriving aerospace engineering.
Now I have another limp drag situation of employment opportunities for youth here, let me highlight how nicely the previous government money making machinery made Desur IT park, the sane part was, this IT park had no electric power supply substation, no Satcoms or earth station , no internet FOC or any thing that you need for IT parks, but it had five syntax water tanks, laughable Sir, we are the most rain and water abundant district, we serve Mallama’s water to Hubli Dharwad also. But still in the name of IT park we got just those five water tanks and some roads with high cost for land.
Off late a recent request by our State IT BT Minister, the Army encroached land of 750 acres was supposed to be taken back by state government to be used for IT and Défense park, now has gone back to dusting file cupboards, I hope this double engine Sarkar of state and central government, shouldn’t fall back in getting this granted in favours of creating large IT/BT employment opportunities for student from city which hosts the state technical University Headquarters VTU, and 11 engineering collage in district with 7 in and around city itself. You must call and showcase the industry bigwigs to promote Belagavi, with its strength and support as next IT BT industry destination of Karnataka, as we are now connected to 14 cities by Air, largest number of star hotels, two Golf course, cool moderate climate, ample education base, low cost of living, fresh farm produced vegetables, Tourist gateway to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and most number of jungle resorts and retreat in North Karnataka, what else is needed Sir. But we still miss the name in the list of KDEM and included later.
We were lucky for some time in terms of Railway connectivity, when Late Hon State minister for Railways Mr Suresh Anagadiji , made it realized to state government that Belagavi too is an important district, and hence deserve a train to state capital daily, well it though happened and He really fulfilled much larger dreams of developments including Pit lines, coach maintenance depot, south side access to station, Goods shed shifting to Sambra, and most importantly Belagavi-Dharwad Railway line, the bid for which was won by RITES (Railway Government Body) which has withdrawn from the project , Why So Sir ? because the government drags its feet so does our city.
Hon CM Sir, I have just tried an effort to appraise You about the ground level situation of possible projects that have dragged so far, sadly our local MP’s and MLA are on drag race too, sadly nothing to credit them for, and since You have taken interest of conducting session in North Karnataka at Suvarna Vikas Saudha, Belagavi. We Belagavites have raised our hopes on you to fulfil the dreams of Belagavi as second capital and lastly not missing to ask You please also relocate all the major offices to Belagavi SVS that we deserved to be called as second capital and to remain one.
