With an aim to promote competitive swimming in tier-Il cities, the Karnataka Swimming Association will host the State Junior and Sub. Junior Aquatic Championship in the state of the art KLE Society Aquatic Centre here.
The live-day event which begins May 25 will witness over 600 swimmers from over 30 clubs will vie top honours and a place in the state team, as the meet is a qualifying event for the forthcoming Sub Junior and Junior National Championship.
“Karnataka Swimming Association is closely working with tier-Il cities to develop swimming and unearth talent who can be groomed for the future. Taking this marquee state championship to a city like Belagavi will help promote the sport in that city which has always shown great potential in the sport, Karnataka Swimming Association President Gopal B Hosur said.
“Watching top Indian swimmers participate, will motivate young children of that region. Moreover, the infrastructure is excellent in Belagavi and it is important to provide swimmers a good experience,” he said.
KSA will be hosting many National and International Meets in the days to come at Belagavi and will make it the next hub city of swimming in the state.
Top Indian swimmers Utkarsh Patil, V Ridhima, D Dhinidhi, Nina Venkatesh will represent their respective clubs.
Among swimmers to watch out for are D pavan, Vidith Shankar, Shivank Viswanath, Surya Joyappa and Aksya in Group I boys. In Group I girls, Vihitha Nayana, Meenkshi, R Hashika, Manvi Varma, D Dhinidhi Nayan Vignesh are top draw. and In group II girls, Ashmita Chandra, Shirin. Latesha Mandanna, Saanvi S. Anway and Linesha AK are expected to do well. Among Group 11 boys, Dhakshan, Dharshan, Kushal K. Yash Karthik and Akshaj Thakuria are expected to shine.
