The state government will launch the Gruha Lakshmi scheme on August 27, Grand launch event to be held in Belagavi City.
The decision was taken at a meeting with Deputy CM D K Shivakumar and a video conference with DCs and other officials concerned.
Speaking to the media, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar said a total of 1.05 crore women have registered for the scheme till date. “Based on suggestions from cabinet ministers, the government has decided to postpone the launch by a week. This will also provide more time to the women to enrol for the scheme,” he said, following a meeting with ministers and officials on the implementation of the scheme.
The invitations for the have been sent to senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. The scheme will be launched at 11,000 places across the state simultaneously.

The Gruha Lakshmi scheme is the most resource intensive programme of the Congress which made five guarantees ahead of the polls this year. The projected outgo for the scheme is expected to be in excess of Rs 30,000 crore annually.
