Belagavi city corporation’s ambitious project – building Malls in the city got delayed. The Belagavi City corporation had planned to set up Malls in 4 areas with a view to facilitating the market and reducing the congestion in the existing market area.
Decentralizing of city core area by developing Malls and improvement of mobility has been given top priority. Though Decision was taken to build malls in 2012, Not even single Mall is ready after 8 years. Procedures including getting approval from infrastructure development department for these projects were completed. Later due to various reasons like Finance issue, Change of administration the projects were delayed.
Planned Four, Executed One : With intension to increase City corporation revenue, City Corporation had plans to build four malls in important areas. However City Corporation dropped projects are now being taken under Smart City.
Mall at APMC Road : Out of four proposed malls, Only APMC road mall under construction since 5 years, construction of this mall has started 5 years back in 2015. Mall is being built in 24,540 Sqft area at the cost of Rs.40 Crores. Centre will have 220 shops, out of which 48 are now completed. Mall will have G+3 floors. Ground floor and first floor to have shops, 2nd floor to have Cinema Multiplex, 3rd floor to have Food court and 4th floor for office space.

Delay : Construction got delayed due to court stay order. However now court has given permission to continue the construction. Construction is in progress.
Mall at Kalamandir : Initially City corporation planned to build Mall at Kalamandir, in Tilakwadi which spread over 7800 sq mtrs out of which 27000 sq feet would be utilized for the mall and an estimated at 44 crores has been made. The mall which include Multiplex, food court, entertainment park and independent parking. Later work was taken under Smart City.
Mall at Mal Maruti Extension : City corporation had plan to build Mall in MalMaruti extension aswell. Mall was estimated to be built at the cost of Rs.32.05 Crores. Shops, Cinema Multiplex, Food court and parking facility were planned. Similarly City corporation also had plan to build Mall in Basaveshwar Circle (Goaves). Shops, Cinema Multiplex, Food court and parking facility were planned.
Now among these, Mall at Malmaruti extension will be taken under Smart city and built in PPP Model and Basaveshwar Circle project have been dropped.
Malls under Smart City : Under the Smart City project, the Belagavi City Corporation is planned to construct three mouldable underfill-based commercial centres at a total estimated cost of Rs 234.8 crore. The three projects at Dharmanath Bhavan Circle, Mahantesh Nagar and near the 1st Railway Gate(Under construction) will be taken up under public-private partnership model
The largest of the projects will at Dharmanath Bhavan. It will be commercial centre and new city centre built across a 3.15-acre space at an estimated cost of Rs 130.3 crore. The commercial centre at Mahantesh Nagar will come up on about 2 acres at a cost of Rs 84.7 crore. The one near the 1st Railway Gate is being planned on a 0.66-acre space at an estimated cost of Rs 19.7 crore.
