The Karnataka high court has dismissed a public interest litigation( PIL) against state government’s decision to shift the office of the Sugarcane Development and Directorate to Belagavi city, Citing it as a policy decision.
“It is not in dispute that Belagavi is the area which involves several sugar mills and is called ‘The Sugar Bowl of Karnataka’. This decision of the state government to shift the Sugarcane Development and Directorate of Sugar to Belagavi is a policy decision” a division bench headed by chief justice Ritu Raj Awasthi observed in their order while dismissing the petition filed by Bandappa Kote and four others.
By a notification dated September 30,2021, the state government had decided to shift the said offices with effect from October 1, 2021.
The petitioners claimed that the decision was taken in a hurried manner and also without appreciating the ground realities such as accessibility and availability of infrastructure.
