The North-Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) to expand its fleet soon as the government has allocated Rs 150 crore to buy new buses for it.
NWKRTC to induct electric buses and ultra-luxury buses like ‘Ambaari Utsav’ in Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and ‘Kalyana Ratha’ in Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
The government has approved the proposal to induct electric buses on gross cost contract (GCC) model. NWKRTC has proposed to procure 450 electric buses. Electric buses would include 200 mofussil-type buses, 150 city buses, and 100 BRTS-model buses. Officials are assigned to collect details of e-bus operations by BMTC and to float tender for the same. These Electric buses are planned to be operated from Belagavi, Dharwad and Hubballi divisions.
As of now, NWKRTC operating 4,830 buses from six districts in the region.
