The North Western Road Transport corporation (NWKRTC) on Tueday (Aug.02) launched RFID Based smart cards to facilitate inter-city travel in Belagavi. The pilot phase have been implemented for the first time in Karnataka.
Limited smart cards will be issued for Belagavi City Bus stand to Angol, Vadagaon and Yallur routes for the pilot study. Cards will work as a prepaid device which will allow commuters to travel specified routes via bus without worrying about cash.
Commuters can recharge these smart travel cards with any amount. Those who top-up the smart cards with Rs.250 or more, They will be given 10% additional bonus.
As per the sources, During a bus journey, the smart cards would be scanned by special machines positioned at various places at the platform. The commuters would have to swipe at both occasions — entry and exit. Depending on the distance covered, the balance on the card will be adjusted.
The system could be extremely beneficial for commuters who travel to-and-fro between cities and their respective suburbs.
