The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to launch a new Bengaluru-Pune Expressway to facilitate better movement for travellers.
The Expressway will be made at an estimated cost of 50,000 Crore and will cover 12 districts along the way. As per reports, the expressway will pass via Kanjale from Pune Ring Road to Muthagadahalli on the Satellite Ring Road in Bengaluru.
Speed : The six-lane expressway will be designed to increase the vehicle speed to 120 km. Once completed, it will ensure travel time between two cities to around 6 hours, said an official in the Ministry.
Currently, the preliminary survey on the expressway has been completed and the final blueprint will be handed over to NHAI by December, 2022.

The express way will run along 12 districts from Pune, covering Satara, Sangli, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru till Bengaluru.
Karnataka : The expressway will start from Bommanal on the Maharashtra border in Athani Taluk. It will pass through Athani (Belagavi district) Jamakhandi, Bagalkot, Mudhol, Badami (Bagalkot district) Nargund, Ron (Gadag district), Yelaburga, Koppal (Koppal district), Hagaribommanahalli, Kudligi (Vijayanagara district) Jagaluru (Davangere), Chitradurga taluk, Sira, Madhugiri, Koratagere and Tumakuru (Tumakuru district), Nelamangala and Doddaballapur (Bengaluru Rural district).
The project will be commissioned by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) in collaboration with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The current distance between Pune to Bangalore is 842.1 KMs, which takes approximately 14 to 15 hours to cover. Reportedly, with this new expressway the journey will cut down to just 7 hours with a distance of 699 KMs and provide safe travel to commuters going on long journeys during night hours.
The expressway will have an interchange with other roads at 22 places and a total of 5,205 hectares are required for the project in Karnataka alone. Two emergency airstrips close to Pune and Bengaluru with 5 km length will be built.
