Dr. Sharanprakash R Patil, the Minister of Medical Education, has given assurance that the grant for the recruitment of lecturers, non-teaching staff, and the purchase of furniture and other Vedic equipments needed for the 250-bed super specialty hospital in the city will be released soon.
He was speaking while presiding over the BIMS progress review meeting held on Saturday (Nov.04) at the super specialty hospital hall in the BIMS hospital premises Belagavi.
Around 150 years ago, the district hospital was established, but its aged infrastructure has resulted in numerous pending repair works. This has led to a dire situation where a considerable influx of patients from all corners of the district face suffering due to the scarcity of beds. Prakash Hukkeri, a member of the Legislative Council, has emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan to construct a new hospital in the city, equipped with 450 beds. He has urged the responsible department minister to be informed of this urgent requirement.

The hospital has already received enough funds for different projects, but the authorities are not putting them to use. Prakash Hukkeri has directed the officials to ensure that the grant is fully utilized within the given timeframe, without any excuses.
In response to this, Minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil has assured that a proposal for the establishment of a 450-bed hospital in Belagavi will be submitted to government. Additionally, he assured that the government will promptly engage in discussions regarding the hospital’s location and estimated expenses.
Demand for Mother-Child care Hospital:
There has been a long-standing public demand for a mother-child hospital in Chikkodi, but the officials contacted have not responded to this demand. As a result, local patients are forced to travel to Kolhapur-Sangli in Maharashtra for medical treatment. Although in 2017, the construction of mother-child hospitals in Savadatti, Nippani, and Chikkodi was approved and grants were provided, the construction of the hospital in Chikkodi has not commenced yet. This delay is unnecessary and has caused inconvenience to the community. In a recent meeting, Prakash Hukkeri, a member of the Vidhan Sabha, urged for an immediate call for new tenders and initiation of the hospital’s construction.
Belagavi North MLA Asif (Raju) Seth, BIMS Director Dr. Ashoka Kumar Shetty, Principal and Medical Superintendent Dr. Annasaheb B Patil, BIMS CAO Dr. Siddu Hulloli, District Surgeon Vitthala Shinde, BIMS RMO Dr. Saroja Thigadi, BIMs principals of various departments Namdev Malagi, Prakash Kodli and other officials were present in the meeting.
