Hyderabad based infrastructure major, Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL)-Hydrocarbon division is expanding the city gas distribution with a very ambitious plan.
MEIL has developed an underground gas distribution network in Belagavi city. MEIL had been awarded the contract worth Rs.272.80 Crore in the 10th round of bidding to launch Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Belagavi city and work had begun in 2016.
The company already supplying PNG and CNG to the various customers across all areas in the city.
And PNG is a hit in Belagavi, as over 17,000 domestic connections have been registered so far, also 107 Commercial and 27 Industrial connections have been registered which is highest in Karnataka according to company.

As per the sources, the company will lay 1,800 inch kms gas pipeline in city (An inch km refers to a pipe with a diameter of an inch and a length of a kilometre), out of which a 400 km gas pipeline has been laid in the city so far.

The company has a total of five Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Stations in the state, out of which 3 CNG Stations are located in Belagavi City – at Udyambag, Gandhi Nagar and Kakati. Proposed to open more stations across city.
MEIL company has recently bagged 12 geographical areas (GAs) out of the 52 GAs of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
