Many of street lights in the city which are installed recently are not functional. What is surprising is that just last year, the old high-pressure sodium or halogen street lights were replaced with LEDs under smart City project.
The newly installed lights by BSCL are not working in the city. Residents venturing into the dark streets in the evening are at risk as many of the roads are incomplete and debris/Construction materials have been left on the roads.

LED lights have a rated life of up to 50,000 hours, much longer than an incandescent, halogen of CFL bulb. It is estimated that if used 12 hours a day, a 50,000-hour bulb will last more than 11 years. However, the LEDs on city streets have stopped functioning in about a year’s time.
