On Wednesday, Dharwad high court circuit bench has issued an interim stay order for the project of laying railway tracks between Belagavi-Dharwad via the Desur.
Prasad Patil has filed a petition opposing the farm-way route of the project at the high court bench. As per the reports made on Belagavi Express, Last month, the bench issued notices to the concerned officers of the railway department and railway ministry as well. However, as the concerned authorities failed to put the government version, despite giving two opportunities, the court has stayed the project.
The proposed route passes through the villages- Gurlgunji, Desur, Rajhansgad, Nandihalli, Nagenahatti, Nagenhal, KK Kopp and Halagimardi. Farmers claimed in the court that around 80% of land that required acquiring for the project is fertile and hundreds of farmers depend on that land. Farmers also claimed that the earlier route plan of the project was along the national highway-4 but later that was changed due to political intervention.
According to advocate Ravindra Gokakakar, the proposed route is not appropriate because it passes through fertile land, as well as it increases the distance by 4kms. The court stayed the project after hearing the arguments.
