Forest officials in Khanapur (Belagavi) have imposed a ban on tourists visiting the waterfalls in the Western Ghats region bordering Goa.
The decision was taken after the rising rush of youngsters visiting the waterfalls and meeting with minor or fatal accidents.
Soon after the commencement of the rainy season, the waterfalls and nature in the Western Ghats region bordering Belagavi and Goa have come alive attracting tourists, especially the youngsters from Belagavi and other neighboring areas.
Tourists visiting the waterfalls do not get the judgment of the deceptive trails of waterfalls in the Western Ghats. Many youngsters also try to either swim in the waterfalls or lose balance while taking selfies. This leads to major and minor accidents. Many either get hurt or lose their lives.

Taking note of a recent incident where a youngster from Belagavi lost his life on Thursday, Kankumbi forest officials have banned the entry of tourists.

A 16-year-old youngster from Belagavi along with his friends visited a newfound waterfall at Shimboli near Man village on the Khanapur Goa border. The trail of this waterfall is so dangerous that even the villagers avoid visiting this waterfall.
Boards displaying the ban have been also displayed at all the waterfalls and a warning has been issued of legal action in case someone tries to defy the order.
