A petition was submitted on Thursday by the Belagavi Bar Association to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai through the district administration demanding that the National Law University be established in Belagavi.
Association in a petition stated that ‘Belagavi district has ample civic facilities and is rich in natural resources. The city lies at the border of three states, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. Considered as the second capital of Karnataka, Suvarna Vidhana Soudha the legislature building is built and every year the sessions will be held here. Also, Belagavi has very good air, rail and road connectivity. There are hundreds of years old law colleges in the city. This would help people of Belagavi from travelling to Hubballi every day. Therefore, it is demanded in the petition that National Law University should be established in Belagavi itself.’
Belagavi Association President Prabhu Yatnatti, Vice President Sachin Shivannavar, Sudhir Chavan, Secretary Giriraj Patil, Joint Secretary Bunty, M B Zirli, Association members Abhishek Udoshi, Adarsh Patil, Irfan Bala, Prabhakar Pawar and other lawyers were present.
