Establishment of dedicated Cargo terminal at Belagavi Airport is financially unviable, Union minister for aviation Jyotiraditya M Scindia said in a reply.
The minister’s letter reply came in response to a question asked by MP Iranna Kadadi during session. “I have had the matter examined. The total air cargo tonnage handled at the Belagavi airport in the last three years was 06 MT in FY 2020-21, 35 MT in FY 2021-22, and 37 MT in FY 2022-23. Under the circumstances, it is evident that due to the limited cargo volume, establishment of dedicated cargo terminal with a Regulated Agent (RA) is financially unviable. Accordingly, the transportation of domestic air cargo at Belagavi Airport is presently facilitated through the Domestic Passenger Terminal.”
“In addition, the Airport Director, Belagavi Airport has been advised for allotment of space to Airlines in case they are interested in starting dedicated cargo operations through self-handling.”, He mentioned in the letter.
