The third wave of COVID-19 led to an almost 41% decline in Belagavi Airport passenger traffic in January compared with the previous month, according to Airports Authority of India.
The Belagavi Airport passenger traffic in January was at 17,384 as compared with 29,257 in December 2021. the aircrafts movement at Belagavi Airport was 430 in January 2022, significantly lower than nearly 518 aircrafts movement in December 2021.
Many flights were cancelled in January as compared to December. Passengers too avoided travelling as government had announced RT-PCR negative certificate mandatory for entering Karnataka from Maharashtra and Kerala.
Instrument Landing System : The Instrument Landing System (ILS) is being installed in Belagavi airport. Major airports in the country have this system which enables pilots land in low-visibility conditions. About 6 crores have been spent on this technology.

FTO work on full swing : The construction of Taxiway, Hangar and Apron has begun at Belagavi airport by Red bird Aviation and another company i.e., Samvardhana Technologies Private Ltd. yet to start the work. The schools will come up on 5,000 square metres.
