The North Goa Collector has issued a rectification order that now allows heavy vehicular traffic on Chorla Ghat stretch between Goa and Belagavi, from 10 pm to 5 am. This indicates that heavy vehicles will not be permitted to use the route from 5 in the morning till10 at night.
It may be recalled that eight days ago, the North Goa Collector had issued a notification banning heavy vehicular traffic along the route as it was posing risks to passenger vehicles.
This had created a tense situation at the Keri check post as police withheld a large number of goods vehicles at the border. However, since there is no other convenient route, the Collector issued the rectification order.
The Anmod Ghat route is currently closed for heavy traffic due to ongoing repair work, as a result of which vehicles have to cover an extra distance of 160 kms while moving from Belgaum via Canacona.
