Bosch Ltd. inaugurated a solar project at Yaragatti village of Belagavi district on NOVEMBER 24, 2018,. The plant will supply power exclusively to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, which is about 460 km away. also covers 30% of total energy needs of Bagmane Tech park in Bengaluru.
Soumitra Bhattacharya, MD of Bosch Ltd., and Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), inaugurated the plant. Built over 90 acres, the plant can generate 14.4 MW of solar power. This is the second unit dedicated to supplying power to BIAL, after the 2.94-MW installation by Bosch at the car park area near BIAL, functioning since May 2017.
According to Mr. Marar, their strategy was to become self-reliant in renewable energy. “We want to be 100% powered by renewable energy by 2020. Towards that end, this flagship project will help us reduce the carbon footprint significantly and achieve greater sustainability in the aviation sector,” he said.
Mr. Bhattacharya said the shift to renewable energy has been rapid in recent years. With the backing of the government, various organisations have been working toward achieving the capacity addition goals set on solar energy for 2022. “Bosch is proud to be a part of this journey and we believe that our association with BIAL is an integral part of our commitment to sustainability,” he said.
