Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday evening (25 Jun) paid a surprise visit to renovated Belagavi Central bus station and inspected the facilities and also informed that Belagavi will get new buses soon.
Speaking to the media, Reddy said, “When I was the transport minister in 2016, the foundation stone of the Belagavi bus stand was laid. This bus stand was completed at a cost of Rs 33 crore. Another Rs 1 crore has been sought for the final stage of work. Action will be taken to complete the work soon.”
“As many as 3.5 lakh people travel daily from six depots of Belagavi district in which 2.2 lakh are women and 1.3 lakh are men. The number of women passengers is more here. I came to know that 20 villages of Belagavi district do not have bus facilities. Already two villages have been provided with bus facilities and a survey is being conducted to provide bus facilities for the remaining 18 villages,” the minister said.
The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation has received approval for the purchase of 4,000 new buses. Action will be taken to provide more new buses for Belagavi section, he added.

“The construction work of the city bus stand is in progress and this work will be completed in six months at a cost of Rs 49 crore. If the city transport is separated, the bus station will be more convenient,” he said.
