Belagavi Central bus stand work may complete in December 2021

The ₹32 crore high-tech Central bus stand work that started at Belagavi in December 2016 has been further delayed, thanks to various obstacles including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even after five years the foundation stone was laid for the construction of central bus terminus (CBT) in the city, bus stand isnt ready yet. But contractor has got many reasons to delay the work.

Though the deadline to finish work of CBT has long expired in January 2018. The slow pace of the work for the high-tech building already created lot of inconvenience to the commuters.

The on-going slow work was completely halted more than a month or two after the workers left the construction site because of the increase in COVID-19 cases As workers were from Nashik including contractor said the Corporation sources. Since then, there had been no progress as the government kept extending lockdown while and tightening the restrictions.

According to sources, 70% of work already completed, But works like Concreting surface, Washroom fittings, Painting, Marking, Seating arrangements, Cleaning, restrooms, Parking facilities are yet to be done.

Contractor says we have to manage movement of buses, Passengers and on-going bus stand construction so it has turned difficult task to complete work in-time.

“We will try to complete work by end of December 2021” – As per Prajavani interview, the NWKRTC Executive engineer Prakash V Kabade said – “Yes, it was delayed due to various reasons, we are trying hard to finish the work by this December end”.

Daily more than 2000 buses ply – Since Belagavi is located on the border between Karnataka and Maharashtra, over 2,000 buses from different places enter the terminus daily. Hundreds of buses travel to Hubballi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Chennai, Bagalkot, Mysuru, Vijayapura, Bidar and Davanagere. The temporary place created for parking of buses at the bus terminus is also falling short. According to sources, over 60,000 people use this terminus to go to different destinations every day.
