Nearly 60% more passengers flew in last 5 months than in the previous year as the carriers were allowed to sell more tickets per flight and travellers felt more confident about flying amid the pandemic.
As many as 1.5 Lakh passengers travelled by air in last 5 months i.e., January, February, March, April and May 2021 compared with 94,101 in beginning five months of 2020, data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Saturday showed. The number of passengers, increased approximately 60% from a year earlier.
For the month of January 2021, Belagavi airport had registered a passenger traffic of 39,063, which dropped to 37,469 in February due to cancellation of few Flights, then 34,380 in March, 25,055 in April and further dropped to 11,271 in May due to lockdown travel restrictions in various states according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation data.
About 3307 flights movement registered in last five months. Belagavi has Direct flights to 12 Indian cities – Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kadapa, Indore, Nashik, Tirupati, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Jodhpur and Mysuru from 5 Airlines – IndiGo, Spicejet, Star Air, TruJet and Alliance Air.

Cargo movement – Belagavi airport handled cargo of about 60 MT approximately till May 2021. Which is 264% compared to First five months in 2020.
