Instrument Landing System (ILS) work which started in the year 2019 is now completed and to be commissioned shortly. Post-commissioning, the new ILS system will aid in smoother landing of flights.

Flight Training Organisations/Academy (FTO/FTA) : Airports Authority of India had awarded letters on 31 May 2021 and 29 October 2021 for nine FTOs to be established at five airports intcluding two FTO’s at Belagavi (Karnataka). Work on setting up of flying school by Redbird aviation is now completed, The facilities including taxiway, apron and hangar facilities are ready. It is expected to commission the training in December 2022. Another FTO by Samvardhane Technologies is in progress.

Bomb Cooling Pit : Construction of new Bomb cooling pit at Belagavi airport in progress. Any object suspected to contain explosives is kept in the dug-out — cooling pit in security parlance — for 24 hours. The pit is one of the most vital devices for the airport’s security.

MRO Facility : Airports Authority of India (AAI) has recently awarded land space at Belagavi Airport for Hangar and Apron facility to the Delhi based private firm Aviation Connectivity & Infrastructure Developers Private Limited. This Maintenance hanger caters aircrafts type Embraer 145-commercial airline, private aircraft and chartered flights like Legacy650, Falcon7x, Challenger 605 etc. Work is expected to begin in the month of December 2022/January 2023.
