Nearly a month after the registration of properties was stopped in the State, offices of sub-registrars are set to open from today with certain conditions.
Sub-registrars have been directed to be maintain Social distancing within and outside the office. Wearing of masks has also been made compulsory. The offices will be open from 10am to 6pm
The Karnataka government has banned the receipt of cash and DD at sub-registration offices. The state government has directed to do transactions through the bank. Or online payments.
The Department of Stamps and Registration has decided to opt for digital payments at sub-registrar offices after coming across hawala transactions and instances of government funds being transferred into private bank accounts at the offices. According to sources in the department, the order was issued after complaints that money transferred for property transactions were being misused. The state government has announced that disciplinary action will be taken against such officers if they receive money in other ways or in cash.
